The best way to tell you who I am is really just to tell you the ‘loves’ of my life. By the way, after the first five, they aren’t in any particular order. I love my dog, but more than some of you? No way!

1-Jesus
2-Miranda (my wife)
3-Kasen and Kesleigh Corn!!! (my kids)
4-Family (Corns/Underwoods, and Mathews)
5-Friends (LJ, Tomball, Crowley)
6-Teaching Woodshop
7-Reading and Writing
8-Being a fan of my kids – Soccer, Swim, Waterpolo
9-Camping, hiking, exploring, going on Adventures
10-Guitar, Worship Leading, & Music Ministry (Taylor and Brian Moore Guitars)
11-Scuba Diving and Snow Skiing
12-Ice Cream (Blue Bell), Good Texas BBQ, Chicken Fried Steak, Key Lime Pie
13-See, Stranger Things, Bosch, Game of Thrones, Friday Night Lights, Kim’s Convenience, Big Bang Theory, Seinfeld
14-Star Wars, Coach Carter, Patch Adams, With Honors, Lion Witch and Wardrobe, Braveheart
15-Bible, Wingfeather Series, Raising a Modern Day Knight, Visioneering, In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day, Traveling Mercies
16-Throne Together, 300 East, Greenhouse, Evan Godbold, Cardinal Rise, Andrew James, Andrew Peterson, David Wilcox, MuteMath, The Academic, The Arkells, Ellie Holcomb, U2, Sting, The Cars, Van Halen, Tom Petty, Talking Heads, Crowder, Tomlin, Lincoln Brewster, Tim Hughes

In a typical week, my favorite time is usually one of two things: (1) A date night with Miranda or (2) A breakfast Bible Study time with one of my kids.

    1. Sorry Brianna. I didn’t realize you had written more comments here. It’s supposed to send me alerts when I have new comments, but I didn’t get any. Anyway – please don’t think I’ve been ignoring you. I love you way too much to do that. Wish we lived closer so we could see you guys more often.

No, I don’t know when we’ll see you next. Hope we can make it up that direction for Christmas or Thanksgiving maybe. We still haven’t figured it out yet.

What’s up with you??? How’s school??? Whatcha been reading lately??? What’s been going on with church youth stuff??

  3. haha yeah i figured u just got busy and hadnt checked this page. it would be great if u guys could come up for one of the holidays love having the whole family together its great> had a blast on halloween was a hula girl. ethan was a soldier and jaycee was a fairy and tristen a cow. we had a blast. youth group is great! ethan and i go to different churches now tho i go to a house youth group at my friends place down the street , there are only about 14 of us and i like it alot better than a big ytouth group because i can ask questions and get a clearer picture of whats being tought. schools going great i have straight As and i have all year . this is the first time ive done this well in school sinse sixth grade. we get new kids often and our newest is my age and already battling a huge drug addiction….his name is colton please pray for him. the books i have been reading are the adult left behind series im on book ten the remenant. in between those books i am reeading harry potter i am now on book six the half blood prince …….i have also beenm watching the movies im on the third movie(prisoner of azkaban) i want to get all the books read and see the movies up to six by the end of this month when the seventh movie comes out. btw loved the pics of kasen and kes on halloween kes looks mmmmaaaaaddddd! pictures are worth a thousand words and some of hers are i cant beleive u are doing this. haaha dad and brenda say hi dad thinks its funny talking thru comments. love you and are praying for the family. cant wait to see you and aunt miranda and the kids. love from the whole family

p.s. sorry about the miss spellings not good with that stuff

    1. I think it’s funny that you talk to me through comments too. Not sure why, but for some reason when you comment here, I don’t get a notification that you have written anything. Unless I just happen to run across it and check it, I don’t know you’ve responded. Anyway – that’s why it’s taken so long for me to respond to you.

Looks like we’ll be seeing you the week before Christmas. Glad we’ll be able to see you again. I like having the whole family together too.

Kesleigh just woke up from her nap when they took that halloween pic. She wasn’t really mad – just not happy yet. I’m glad to hear you’re in a smaller youth group now. I think it’s important to be in a place where you can ask questions and more importantly, get your questions answered and wrestle with the things that God wants you to know. In a big group, you can just hide and be anonymous and nobody would ever know you even had any questions. And the youth minister in a big group may have great intentions, but he simply can’t know everybody or give the kind of time to each student that they need. Anyway, I probably have too many opinions when it comes to youth ministry, but I’m glad you found a small group.

Praying for you Brianna. Love you.

  4. ya i saw that you were going to be coming for christmas and i got excited cant wait to see you guys………..well i guesss u will just have to check this page more often haha………love you guys and cant wait to see you

    stay safe!

  5. Steve,
I just read a comment that you posted on Oct. 6 about a blog that Adam McClane wrote on 2 Lies of Church Employment. You said that you loved Andy Stanley’s approach, which is that he wants the church to be the greatest job his staff people have ever had. Can you point me to some more information about what makes North Point a great ministry to work for? Our church is revising its Staff Policy Manual, and I would like to get some input from other churches that have thought this through. Thanks, Jim

    1. Sorry Jim. I can’t. I heard Andy Stanley talking about these ideas on his leadership podcast. I remember the phrase, “The best job you ever had” and also the idea that instead of doing an evaluation of the new staff member, they invite the new staff member to evaluate the church/staff relations group. Here’s a blog post I wrote which was at least partially based upon those concepts: http://stevecorn.com/2010/04/church-staff-ideas/

I’ll say a prayer for you guys as you discern God’s leadership in how you develop your staff policies.

  6. Steve, I’m not sure what to write here, but I felt like I needed to. I was doing an Google search today and saw your name come up in one of the responses… I thought surely this can’t be the Steve Corn I knew in Tomball… but sure enough it was. I don’t really believe in coincidences- so I thought I would drop a comment to your blog. My name is Jon Hicks and I was the youth minister at Bridgestone Baptist church from like 1996-2001ish… I was blessed to be a part of a youth ministry network with you and some other great guys during those years and just really appreciated your passion for reaching tough students and how you approached ministry. Your commitment to those students has stuck with me over the years,in fact recently I have had to defend my ministry to that type of student from “the church”. Thanks for being a partner in ministry in those days, and for modeling something that helped me get through a rough patch recently. I said a prayer for your teaching ministry today- and am excited about how God will use you in that role. Be blessed- Jon Hicks p.s. Your family looks beautiful! God has blessed you with some sweet kiddos…

  7. Wow..your website is crazy good! I was not expecting it. I just wanted to say that we are going to miss you. You are a great teacher and person and I know that something will come your way. You and your family will be in my prayers.

  8. Hello Steve. I’m a grade 8 teacher, and I would like to use the 3 venn diagrams from your site that demonstrate the concept of integrity. It is for my character education program and language pathway. No profit will be made from the use, other than, hopefully, students with better judgement and character. We will all profit from a population with better character. Please let me know if I have you approval. Thank you~
